counseling [04 Sep 2010|01:38am]

Is there a local university that offers counseling for free or at a discounted rate to members of the community? I was hoping one of the schools with a graduate program in psychology might offer such an opportunity for their students to train with real patients. I've heard about programs like this before. Or perhaps there's a psych grad student out there that would be interested in counseling.

apartment? [19 Aug 2010|11:51pm]

so long story short, here is my deal:
I am a 23 year old female incoming grad student at Montclair State. I had an apartment set up in West Orange that recently fell through. This means that until I find somewhere else to live, I am stuck living with my parents in South Orange. This is not a good situation for anyone involved. I've been tearing craigs list apart on an hourly basis and have gotten nowhere. Does anyone know somewhere I can look for apartments? A roommate situation is preferable.

Thai Iced Tea Leaves [15 Aug 2010|12:38am]

Does anyone know an Asian market (or standard supermarket for that matter) that sells Thai Iced Tea leaves? I'm in Nutley so in the area is ideal, but anywhere in North Jersey works. I don't really want to go to Jersey City.

Wi-Fi enabled, quiet places to study/work [20 Jun 2010|12:53pm]

I'm looking for Wi-Fi enabled, quiet places that would be good for studying/doing some work.  They don't have to be QUIET like a library, but B&N and Starbucks would have a bit too much distraction.  If they're open on Sunday that's even better, since the library at MSU, where I'd normally go, is closed on Sunday during the summer.  In the Montclair area is ideal, but I'd travel a bit- though not to Jersey City or Hoboken.  Any ideas?

New consignment/thrift shop in Dumont (Bergen County) [21 Apr 2010|05:53pm]

[Mods: I don't know if business reviews are okay on here - If not, let me know and I'll take it down.]

In case anyone else on here is into thrift shopping... There is a really nice new consignment shop in Dumont, near where I live, called Beautiful Little Secret. The lady who owns it is really nice and committed to the environment and to helping the community, so I want to help get the word out. The location isn't ideal in terms of visibility, because there's not a lot of foot-traffic where she's located it's still kind of a "hidden gem" type of place. They have a good selection of women's (including plus size, hallelujah!) and kids clothing. A lot of jewelry and accessories, too. It's a more organized and upscale environment than other thrift shops... Much more pleasant than Goodwill. Mostly it's what they call "gently used" clothes, but I noticed a bunch of stuff that still has the tags on it, and a few vintage pieces. The store is really cute and I've found gifts there for a bunch of friends. The prices are really good. And they pay money for your old clothes as long as they are reasonably stylish and in good condition.

They don't have a website but they have a Facebook page:

North Jersey Seed-Swapping, Yardsharing, CSA & Sustainable Gardening Community on Hyperlocavore [02 Apr 2010|08:50am]

I started a new community on the site Hyperlocavore for North Jersey folks to swap seeds and seedlings, find people whose yards they can garden in (or find people who want to garden on their property), and discuss everything related to sustainable gardening and local eating. Come join in!

Please spread the word to friends, too - I don't have a lot of local friends yet since I'm new to the area and would love to see this group grow the way other Hyperlocavore groups have. Check out the Hyperlocavore site for more info on what seed-swapping and yard-sharing is all about.

room/roommates? [14 Mar 2010|12:42am]

I'm looking for a room and/or people interested in being roommates somewhere in the vicinity of the PATH train. I'm favoring Jersey City but also Harrison and Hoboken (if I could afford it...). My parents are throwing me out so I need a place ASAP. April 1st is okay if it must be.

I'm 21, male, gay. I work for a radio station in NYC doing overnights/mornings. I'm not into drama, very into my job, I don't smoke, I barely drink, and pets and kids are cool with me.

I'm looking to spend about $500/month.

Anybody interested/know anyone who might be?

Also, if you happen to know of any possible short-term places to stay so I have somewhere to be if I can't move by April 1st, I would appreciate it!

cracovia mustard [16 Dec 2009|10:27pm]

Anybody know a good Polish deli in Essex county? I'm looking for this one brand of mustard, Cracovia, it's in a tall cylindrical jar with a white label and blue lettering, haven't been able to find it yet. If you know for sure someplace has it, and it's anywhere within like an hour of Montclair, I'll go get it, because the alternative is this one place in Bumblenowhere, CT.
